Stempenyu's Dream
Stempenyu's Dream performs the original Jewish and klezmer compositions of Steven Greenman continuing in the tradition of the great klezmer violinist Stempenyu of Berdichev, Ukraine and the great Jewish violin masters of Eastern Europe. The concept of Stempenyu's Dream is a mystical fantasy reflecting Stempenyu's desire that future generations of musicians will continue to compose and create new works for the Jewish violin to be shared by all.
Steven’s original compositions draw from the historical tradition of the klezmorim and East European Jewish violin performance and composition. Through performance, sublime repertoire and interaction with audiences the greatest of the klezmorim could create a spiritual experience with their music while entrancing their listeners. With Stempenyu’s Dream, Steven collaborates with some of the finest performers of klezmer music in the world today. The original music consists of soulful listening pieces, virtuoso instrumental numbers, haunting violin/cimbalom duets, artistic Jewish chamber music and stirring religious vocal hymns. (Minimum instrumentation includes violin, accordion, cimbalom and bass).
